Development of the African remote-sensing programme
The Economic and Social Council,
Noting with appreciation the steps taken by the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa, as highlighted in his biennial report for 1982/1983, towards the implementation of resolution 280(XII), adopted on 28 February 1975 by the Conference of Ministers of the Economic Commission for Africa, concerning the introduction of remote-sensing technology into Africa, and resolution 313(XIII), adopted on 1 March 1977 by the Conference of Ministers, concerning the establishment of a remote-sensing programme in Africa,
Recalling that the achievements reported by the Executive Secretary have been accomplished principally through the utilization of extrabudgetary resources which have continued to be inadequate for the development of the programme,
Mindful of General Assembly resolution 37/90 of 10 December 1982 on the Second United Nations Conference on the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space,
Requests the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa to review the current programme of the Commission, with a view to reallocating funds for the implementation and development of the African remote-sensing programme.
