University for Peace

The Economic and Social Council,

Recalling General Assembly resolution 34/111 of 14 December 1979, by which the Assembly approved the idea of establishing a University for Peace,

Also recalling General Assembly resolution 35/55 of 5 December 1980, by which the Assembly approved the establishment of the University for Peace,

Aware of the positive response of the international community to the establishment of that institution,

Considering that it is important to follow up the development of the University for Peace in its intitial stage,

Recognizing the important work carried out by the University for Peace during the first stage of its institutional life,

1. Decides to request the University for Peace to submit a report to the Secretary-General on the various aspects of its development, its existing activities and its future plans, including programmes of post-graduate studies;

2. Requests the Secretary-General to transmit to the Economic and Social Council at its first regular session of 1986 the report submitted by the University for Peace in pursuance of paragraph 1 above;

3. Decides to consider this question at its first regular session of 1986.
