Co-ordination and information in the field of youth

The Economic and Social Council,

Recalling its resolutions 1979/27 of 9 May 1979, 1980/25 of 2 May 1980, 1981/25 of 6 May 1981, 1982/28 of 4 May 1982, 1983/26 of 26 May 1983 and 1984/44 of 21 May 1984,

Recalling also General Assembly resolutions 34/151 of 17 December 1979, 36/28 of 13 November 1981, 37/48 of 3 December 1982, 38/22 of 22 November 1983 and 39/22 of 23 November 1984 on the International Youth Year: Participation, Development, Peace,

Considering that the process of preparation and observance of the International Youth Year, on the basis of the Specific Programme of Measures and Activities to be undertaken prior to and during the International Youth Year, of the recommendations made by the Advisory Committee for the International Youth Year and endorsed by the General Assembly, and of the relevant recommendations of the five regional meetings devoted to the International Youth Year held in 1983, has contributed to intensifying and improving the co-ordination of the activities of the United Nations and specialized agencies relating to youth,

Convinced of the importance of giving widespread publicity to the activities of the United Nations in the field of youth, especially in the context of the observance of the International Youth Year,

Taking note of the report of the Secretary-General on co-ordination and information in the field of youth,

1. Endorses the conclusions contained in the report of the Secretary-General on co-ordination and information in the field of youth;

2. Invites again all United Nations bodies, specialized agencies, regional commissions and other international intergovernmental organizations, as well as non-governmental organizations concerned, to consider at their regular meetings appropriate ways and means for the improvement of co-ordination and information in the field of youth in the context of the observance of the International Youth Year and of the follow-up of future programmes devoted to youth;

3. Requests the Secretary-General to take all necessary measures for the successful organization of the appropriate number of plenary meetings at the fortieth session of the General Assembly, in 1985, designated as the United Nations Conference for the International Youth Year, in accordance with paragraph 2 of General Assembly resolution 39/22;

4. Decides to consider at its first regular session of 1986, on the basis of a report of the Secretary-General, the achievements in co-ordination and information in the field of youth.
