Question of a draft declaration on the right and responsibility of individuals, groups and organs of society to promote and protect universally recognized human rights and fundamental freedoms

The Economic and Social Council,

Recalling Commission on Human Rights resolution 1988/71 of 10 March 1988,

1. Authorizes an open-ended working group of the Commission on Human Rights to meet for a period of one week prior to the forty-fifth session of the Commission, in order to continue to elaborate a draft declaration on the right and responsibility of individuals, groups and organs of society to promote and protect universally recognized human rights and fundamental freedoms;

2. Requests the Secretary-General to extend all facilities to the Working Group for its meetings prior to and during the forty-fifth session of the Commission and to transmit the report of the working group that met prior to and during the forty-fourth session of the Commission, together with the annexes thereto, to all Member States in advance of the next meeting of the Working Group, in order to enable it to continue its work on the elaboration of the draft declaration.
