United Nations assistance programmes relating to Afghanistan

The Economic and Social Council,

Having considered the report of the Co-ordinator for United Nations Humanitarian and Economic Assistance Programmes relating to Afghanistan made before the Third (Programme and Co-ordination) Committee of the Council on 21 July 1988,

Convinced that a co-ordinated programme of assistance and relief efforts will entail collaborative undertakings by many different agencies and programmes within the United Nations system,

1. Welcomes the initiative of the Secretary-General, and supports the efforts of the Co-ordinator for United Nations Humanitarian and Economic Assistance Programmes relating to Afghanistan;

2. Urges all Member States to contribute to the fullest extent possible to the United Nations effort to assist the people of Afghanistan;

3. Requests all specialized agencies and United Nations bodies to participate actively in the fulfilment of the United Nations humanitarian and economic assistance programmes relating to Afghanistan.
