International development strategy for the fourth United Nations development decade
The Economic and Social Council,
Recalling General Assembly resolution 42/193 of 11 December 1987,
Having considered the report of the Secretary-General on the preparation of a new international development strategy,
Taking note of the statements made at the second regular session of 1988 of the Economic and Social Council,
Aware of the potential contribution of an international development strategy towards enhanced public support for international economic and social co-operation for development,
1. Recommends that the General Assembly initiate a comprehensive process for the preparation of an international development strategy for the fourth United Nations development decade for the period 1991-2000;
2. Requests all States to contribute actively to the formulation of the strategy;
3. Stresses the important supportive role envisaged for the Secretary-General in the preparation of the international development strategy;
4. Invites the Committee for Development Planning to continue its activities related to the preparation of the strategy with a view to providing concrete inputs to the strategy.
