Resolution on human rights violations in Iran
The European Parliament,
A.concerned at the persistent human rights violations by the Iranian authorities,
B.whereas Mr Mansour Amini, a member of the Mojahedin-e-Khalq (Holy Warriors of the People) organization, was kidnapped in Istanbul on 4 June 1992 by agents of the regime in Iran,
C.having regard to the illegal arrests and executions of political opponents and the attacks by the Iranian army and air force against organizations fighting for democracy in Iran,
1.Condemns the repressive measures implemented by the Iranian Government against any form of opposition in Iran and the attempts to export terrorism outside the country through the activities of terrorist groups;
2.Calls on the Turkish Government to take rapid steps to ensure that Mr Mansour Amini is not taken to Iran where he will be subject to a summary trial and certain death;
3.Calls on the international community to make every effort to ensure that human rights and freedoms are respected in Iran;
4.Instructs its President to forward this resolution to the Commission, the Council, the governments of the Member States and the governments of Turkey and Iran.
