Resolution on human rights in Colombia

The European Parliament,

A.mindful of its previous resolutions on Colombia,

B.referring to the existence of democratic institutions in Colombia,

C.whereas 21 Paez Indians were murdered in Coloto on 16 December 1991,

D.whereas the Colombian army has been engaged in conflict with guerrilla forces for several years, the civilian population suffering from the results of this confrontation;

1.Vigorously condemns the killing of the Paez Indians;

2.Calls on the Colombian Government to punish those guilty of violating human rights;

3.Calls on the Colombian Government and the guerrilla movement to adhere strictly to international human rights legislation;

4.Welcomes the resumption of negotiations between the Coordinadora Guerrillera Simon Bolivar, with a view to reaching a peaceful solution to the political conflict in Colombia;

5.Instructs its President to forward this resolution to the Council, Commission, the Latin American Parliament and the Government of Colombia.
