RESOLUTION B3-1417, 1424, 1453 and 1468/92

The European Parliament,

A. welcoming the democratization process currently underway in Yemen,

B. anxious to support the emergence in this region of a form of multi-party democracy which meets the wishes of the population of the reunified Yemen,

C. dismayed by the series of assassination attempts made since the beginning of the year on politicians and, in particular, on members of the Yemeni Socialist Party,

D. aware of the efforts made by the people of Yemen to help refugees from Somalia,

1. Supports, in view of the country's difficult economic position, the provision of practical assistance with the organization of the general election scheduled to be held in December 1992;

2. Considers it appropriate for observers to be sent to monitor the election;

3. Instructs its President to forward this resolution to the Commission, the Council and the government of Yemen.
