RESOLUTION B3-0528/93
The European Parliament,
A.having regard to the systematic oppression of the Bahai community in Iran,
B.having regard to the recent report on the human rights situation in Iran made to the UN Commission on Human Rights by the UN special rapporteur on Iran, Professor Reynaldo Galindo Pohl,
C.having regard to the continuing arbitrary arrests of members of the Bahai community solely on religious grounds and the confiscation of their property,
D.noting that Bahais continue to be refused access to higher education and employment, and the freedom to travel,
1.Calls on the Community to strongly condemn the Islamic Republic of Iran for its continuing refusal to recognize the basic human rights of the Bahais;
2.Calls on the Community to support the Bahai community's struggle for the right to personal liberty and security, work, education and the right to profess and practise its religion;
3.Instructs its President to forward this resolution to the Commission, the Council and the Iranian Authorities.
