Resolution on the kidnapping of the engineer Julio Iglesias Zamora

The European Parliament,

A.whereas Mr Iglesias Zamora is still held by the ETA terrorist group, which kidnapped him more than two months ago,

B.whereas the sole purpose of the kidnapping was to acquire funds to enable that group to continue its criminal activity,

C.mindful of the mass demonstration on 11 September 1993 in San Sebastian, at which more than 80 000 people demanded that the kidnapped engineer be set free,

D.recalling all victims of violence and intolerance,

1.Condemns in the strongest possible terms the kidnapping of Mr Julio Iglesias Zamora and demands that he be freed immediately and unconditionally;

2.Expresses its solidarity with the wife and children of Mr Iglesias Zamora, with his colleagues, on account of the efforts they are making to maintain public interest, and with pacifist organizations and the Basque people, who daily demonstrate their rejection of this kidnapping;

3.Instructs its President to forward this resolution to the family of Mr Iglesias Zamora, the Spanish and Basque Parliaments and San Sebastian Municipal Council.
