Decision embodying the opinion of the European Parliament on the proposal for the appointment of the President of the European Monetary Institute

The European Parliament,

-having regard to the letter dated 21 October 1993 from the President of the Council, on behalf of the governments of the Member States (C3-0338/93),

-having regard to the recommendation dated 20 October 1993 of the Committee of Governors of the central banks of the Member States,

-having regard to Article 109f of the EC Treaty,

-having regard to Rule 36 of its Rules of Procedure,

-whereas the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and Industrial Policy has examined the written answers to the questionnaire sent to the candidate proposed (PE 206.985); whereas it heard a statement by Mr Alexandre Lamfalussy on 10 November 1993 and deliberated thereon that day,

-having regard to the recommendation of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and Industrial Policy (A3-0354/93),

1.Approves the proposal to appoint Mr Alexandre Lamfalussy to the Presidency of the European Monetary Institute;

2.Instructs its President to forward this decision to the President of the Council for forwarding to the governments of the Member States.
