Resolution on fire safety in hotels
The European Parliament,
-having regard to the motion for a resolution by Mr Titley and others on fire safety in hotels (B3-1647/91),
-having regard to Rule 45 of its Rules of Procedure,
-having regard to the provisions of the Council Recommendation of 22 December 1986 on fire safety in existing hotels,
-having regard to the persistent failure of the Commission to report to the Council (or Parliament) on 'the measures taken or proposed' as required by Article 3(3) of the Recommendation,
-having regard to the continued evidence of the risks run by European consumers through the lack of any European Union mandatory standards on hotel fire safety,
-having regard to Article 138b of the EC Treaty,
-having regard to the report of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Consumer Protection (A3-0310/94),
1.Calls on the Commission to submit to Parliament and the Council a proposal for a directive on fire safety in hotels, based on the existing Recommendation;
2.Instructs its President to forward this resolution to the Commission and the Council.
