Decision on the setting up, number of members, mandate, powers and responsibilities of a temporary committee on employment

The European Parliament,

1.Decides, pursuant to Rule 135(2) of its Rules of Procedure, to set up a temporary committee on employment, with 36 members;

2.Decides to confer on this committee the following mandate, powers and responsibilities:

This temporary committee shall be responsible for examining all aspects of employment policy in order to develop a coherent strategy for combating unemployment and creating sustainable employment.

In this context, it will monitor implementation of the White Paper on Growth, Competitiveness and Employment. If necessary, it will propose additional or alternative measures.

It will prepare Parliament's position in preparation for the Essen European Council and will monitor implementation of the decisions taken. Its term of office shall be 12 months with effect from July 1994.
