Resolution on torrential rains in Liguria

The European Parliament,

A.whereas a sudden and extremely violent storm hit Genoa (Liguria) on 31 August 1994,

B.whereas, during this storm, 150 kph winds devastated the city, causing floods and large-scale damage to crops, houses and harbour installations,

C.whereas the storm also caused a number of deaths,

1.Calls on the Commission to investigate the scale and type of damage caused by the disaster;

2.Calls also on the Commission, as it has done in similar exceptional circumstances in the past, to take immediate measures to help repair infrastructure and, in particular, major communication links;

3.Instructs its President to forward this resolution to the Commission.
