Resolution on flooding in south-eastern France

The European Parliament,

A.whereas, on the night of 23 September 1994, several rivers burst their banks in south-eastern France as a result of torrential rain,

B.whereas, the Alpes, Haute-Provence and Lozčre departments were particularly affected and many families in the town of Mende suffered severe flood damage,

C.having regard to the scale of the disaster in terms of damage to infrastructure and buildings caused by subsidence,

1.Expresses its profound sympathy with the populations affected;

2.Calls on the European Union to provide emergency financial aid for the areas affected;

3.Instructs its President to forward this resolution to the Commission and the Council, and the local and regional authorities of the areas affected.
