The European Parliament,

A.recalling its previous resolutions condemning of the violations of human rights by the Islamic Republic of Iran,

B.reaffirming that governments are accountable for assassinations and attacks by their agents against persons on the territory of another State, as well as for the incitement, approval or wilful condoning of such acts,

C.appalled by the continued repression of women in the Islamic Republic of Iran, agreeing that fundamentalism in Iran denies women the possibility of emancipation,

D.concerned by the current and widespread arrest and control of people, especially young girls and boys, for celebrating the ancient Persian festivities of Mehregan, symbolizing liberty, friendship and peace, which have been banned on religious pretexts for more than a decade,

E.shocked by the systematic repression of the Christian minority, including recent murders of Christian religious ministers,

F.deeply concerned by the published reports on the torture and rape of children in Iran's prisons,

G.expressing concern over the support given by the Islamic Republic of Iran to violent actions taken by fundamentalist groups in a number of countries,

1.Condemns the reports of continuing violations of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran, including reports of summary executions of political prisoners and arrests of political dissidents;

2.Warns against the suppression of religious minorities in Iran, especially the murder of three Christian ministers in 1994 by government agents;

3.Demands that the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran cease forthwith any involvement in terrorism against Iranians living abroad and the nationals of other States;

4.Condemns the use of force against the public when practising their right to free expression as in the case of demonstrations in Tehran, Qazvin and Qaemshahr, where hundreds were wounded and killed during the events or executed afterwards;

5.Calls on the Council to investigate the situation of human rights in Iran and to report to Parliament;

6.Instructs its President to forward this resolution to the Council, the Commission, the governments of the Members States, the Iranian Government and the National Council of Resistance of Iran.
