Dear Ms. Bonino,

Ambassador Swanee Hunt has referred your October 17 letter regarding the establishment of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to me for response. Thank you for sending your comments on this issue.

You mentioned in your letter that you will be representing the Italian position within the UN General Assembly's Sixth Committe.

As you are aware, the U.S. does not believe that a diplomatic conference to negotiate an ICC would be productive at this time.

I am sure that you will have the opportunity to discuss this issue with the appropriate U.S. officials in the Sixth Committe.
