Dear friends!

As you can see in the conf. Radical Party, here, in Moscow, we're trying to put as more information as possible about the Chechnya crisis, because, it seems, that Boris Eltsin supports the one, what I think can be called as genocide of Chechenyans and Russians, inhabitants of Chechnya.

Since yesterday's intervention of mr. Eltsin in the Security Council's session in Moscow, there are two different possible resumes: or (as it was written in some newpapers today) Eltsin doesn't read newspapers and doesn't look TV and doesn't know, what is happening in Chechnya, or he finally decided, that democratic values are bad basis for next elections and the "strong hand's" policy is best choice now for internal and foreign affears of Russia.

I think, we should remember three things:

1. Among Russian political parties "Chechenian campaigne" is supported only by LDPR of Zhirinovsky, Russian National Unity of Barkshev (fascist organization) and National-Bolshevists party of Eduard Limonov.

2. How Eltsin critisized atcitvities of Sergei Kovalev, person, who is more and more often called as "heir of Andrei Sakharov" in Russia.

3. ALL Russian officials are trying to prevent work of media, they press journalists to propagate only official information, coming from special press-center of the Russian government which presents information like this :"During yesterday's struggle near of Gudermes were killed 1000 Chechenyan bandits, among Russian soldiers nobody was wounded"; or "Dudev's bandits are exploding buildings in the Grozny in order to imitate bombing by Russian air forces". After this last information journalist of "The Nezavisimaya gazeta" asked: "maybe, Chechenyans are also shooting themselves, in order to imitate big number of victims?"

In short, there are absolutely clear two things:

1. Military campaigne in Chechnya is not restoring of constitutional order, but violation of human rights of thousands of people;

2. This campaigne is supported by President Boris Eltsin.

We (Olga, Nikolaj and me) think, that in this (new) situation Radical Party has to take a position, declare it, make something.

I think, very important is the opinion and position of Antonio, who knows better then we situation and possibilities of RP, looking from Italy and knows better then You, other members of secretariat situation and possibilities of RP here in Moscow.

I'm sure, he MUST do it also as member of Helsinki mouvement...
