Dear friends,

As you can see in my recent texts in Conference Radical Party (texts 5259 and 5261), an action week against war in Chechnya is scheduled by a big number of different organizations in Russia. It was exactly matter of discussion during today's working reunion of participants of the Agreement about common actions against war in Chechnya, which took lace in Memorial office just after today's press conference.

Among the big amount of scheduled actions and demonstrations, there is one which should interrest us very much. It is manifestation on February 23 in front of Russian Defence Ministry. This day - February 23 - is so called Soviet Army Day, one of the main militarist celebrations in our country since 1918. A demonstration on such a day at such a place will presumably attract a huge attention of mass media and public opinion. Committee of Soldiers' Mothers presented already an official request to demonstrate there at that time "together with other organizations". So, we are welcomed there and we should make our best to give to this action not only an "anti-Chechen-war", but also anti-militarist and pro-conscientious objection caracter.

Another question. During the discussion in Memorial, which day to select for organization an international actions (Memorial and Moscow Helsinki Group will appeal to their interlocutors in USA, Germany, France etc. to demonstrate simultaneously near Russian embassies), I proposed to select exactly this day.

The qustion is: can we organize at least small demonstration on Via Gaeta "against war", "against militarism", "for conscientious objection right in Russia"? Or probably also in other places - Kiev, Brussels, etc.? Probably, it will be possible to do together with those who will manifestate there "from side of Memorial" and other Russian democratic organizations: in Germany there will be Greens, for sure, also somebody in America, etc. Mmmm?
