Brussels' Demonstration: letter to political parties, associations, etc.

Office of ...

Brussels [Rome, Budapest, New York, etc.], February XX, 1996

Dear [........],

March 10th will be a day of particular importance. This date marks the anniversary of the bloody repression of the nonviolent insurrection in Lhasa in 1959 by the occupying forces of the People's Republic of China suppressing Tibet's appeal for the freedom and independence of its people.

For March 10th, the European Parliament's Tibet Intergroup, the Tibetan communities in Europe, the European Tibet Support Groups, and the transnational and transdivisional Radical Party have decided to organize a European demonstration in Brussels for "Freedom in Tibet". On this day of worldwide mobilization, with Brussels as its center, two other proposed initiatives will be witnessed by all citizens: several dozen local administrations from all of Europe will fly the Tibetan flag from their city halls; and thousands of European citizens will hang the national Tibetan flag from their own windows. These three initiatives form one campaign whose character and precise objectives are illustrated and set within the enclosed platform.

The Demonstration's four organizing parties have set up a European Committee to coordinate the initiatives for March 10th so that each country is actively represented by a national committee like our own.

It is evident that from an organizational standpoint the initiative is a complex, difficult and onerous one. Therefore, any and all adherents who are able to offer organizational assistance to the campaign as well as their commitment to participate in the Demonstration are badly needed. Furthermore, a great commitment by all adherents, institutionalized or not, is needed to inform the public of the ethnic cleansing currently being perpetrated by the Chinese in Tibet. Work is also required on a political level whereby resolutions concerning the situation in Tibet should be put on the agendas of parliaments everywhere.

We, therefore, would ask you now to join us in these initiatives by supporting, on behalf of the [party, organization, etc.] that you represent and lead, the political platform of the Demonstration in Brussels.

Please accept our kindest regards and our best wishes in the work to come,

For the [Italian, Hungarian, etc.] Committee: [signatures]
