Tibet: letter from Australia

Gordon, 17 July 1996

Dear Friends,

How lucky I was tired and begged a lift from you home from the Wasserwerk. Not only did I have a delightful bit of time with you, but I am full of enthusiasm for your Flag Day camnpaign. I have spoken to our Committee about it and I am sure we will be able to get something moving here next year. Do you have anyone running it in New Zealand or would you like us to find someone there also? I have a couple of ideas. Please do send us details as soon as you get started. One of the things which occurs to me is that we would be wise to get a parcel of flags coming by sea which is very cheap as opposed to airmail over such a distance. But it will take about 3 months. You will note from our enclosed new Newsletter that we send all donated funds to the Tibetans, so we will have to raise the money for the flags separately, which is not so easy. But something will be done. What did you charge the flag flyers for the flags? Oh yes, may I also point out that the one I bought from you had the tapes on the wrong side. The

flag should be attached to the pole by the side which has the yellow band & the side without yellow is the free side. We must get it right before they fly!

I am now enclosing the Newsletter which I have been putting together since my return and which will also give you an idea of our work. As you will see, we concentrate on hunanitarian support rather than political, but of course, all Tibet refugee support is necessarily political.

I can also be reached via my sods Email on

Warmest regards
