Please imagine the following situation: you handle your e-mail using a 2400 baud modem line with long distance telephone costs through a provider run by volunteers, who also distribute messages using long distance phone lines. How would you react if some networker sent you not a message but a FILE of some HUNDREDS of kilobytes ??

A file you didn't ask for and which even isn't readable, because your provider can't handle those big files.

In net land, it is more gentle to first send a small message to ask if that person is interested in the file at all, and if yes, how to send it. Will you refund my five minutes of useless phone costs?

Please think twice before sending mail. Some networkers have to pay for each character they receive.

Malvarmajn salutojn / Cold greetings,

Derk Ederveen
