Tibetans and Tibet supporters in Europe will be holding a demonstration on 9 and 10 March 1997 in Geneva to commemorate the 38th Tibetan National Uprising Day. The demonstration is being organized by Tibetan communities in Europe, Tibet Support Groups in Europe, Interparliamentary Group for Tibet of the European Parliament, and Transnational Radical Party. Some 10,000 people from all over Europe is expected to participate in the demonstration. The demonstration is to call upon the international community, including the UN to immediately urge the Chinese authorities to begin negotiations to resolve the Tibetan issue and to release Gendhun Choekyi Nyima, the 11th Panchen Lama of Tibet, and other political prisoners. The event is also to urge the 53rd Session of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights to adopt a resolution against China.
It is mentioned in the Bonn final declaration that we should try to have 6000 cities and municipalities fly the Tibetan flag worldwide on 10 March 1997. Therefore, I request all of you to contact your city mayor regarding flying the Tibetan flag and to hold regional demonstration on 10 March 1997.
