Dear Friends of Tibet,
As some of you already know, over hundred cities in Europe last year raised Tibetan flags as part of Tibetan Flag Day on March 10th, the Tibetan National Uprising Day. It was truly a land mark in the Tibetan struggle against the Communist Chinese illegal occupation of Tibet. This year we, the Tibetan support groups in the Bay Area, are trying to commemorate "Flag for Tibet" day in San Francisco on the 38th anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising on March 10th.
We are asking all the friends of Tibet in San Francisco to write letters to the city council members asking them to support " Flag for Tibet". Your letter is very important to make the Flag Day happen. I will attach a list of names of the city council members and also a copy of letter sent by Mr. Bob Moskowitz, President of the Potrero Hill Democratic Club in San Francisco.
As usual we are organizing the March 10th rally and a demonstration in front of the Chinese consulate that day. We will let you know the details of the program for the day, but for now please Mark this date in your calendar.
Talks are underway to raise the Tibetan national flag in the City of Berkeley on that day. We are quite optimistic that the flag will, in fact, be raised in Berkeley. "Flag for Tibet" day in San Francisco will also be very important and I urge you to send letter as well as ask your friends to do so.

Dear Mayor Brown,
The Potrero Hill Democratic Club at its January month meeting passed a resolution in support of " Flag for Tibet" . This is a world wid effort to commemorate the 1959 uprising by the Tibetan people against the Chinese occupiers. Specifically, we ask that you proclaim Monday, March 10, 1997 Flag for Tibet day. I will be sending a letter to Charlotte Mailliard Swig, your chief of protocol, about this effort. It is my understanding that it is her office that has jurisdiction over flag raising over flag raising for the Mayor's office.
There are a number of organization that are interested in this effort. They include, but are not limited to, the International Committe of Lawyers for Tibet, the Tibetan Rights Campaign, the Bay Area Friends of Tibet, & the Milarepa Fund. In addition , I know there is great interest in the Bay Are about the cuase of freedom for Tibet.
