Dear Nikolai Khramov,
I was given your name and e-mail address by Javier Utset. My name is John Suarez and I'm a member of a student run university organization that has existed since the fall of 1993.
Our main goals are:
1. Support the internal Cuban democratic opposition.
2. Supporting a non-violent transition towards democracy and the rule of law.
3.Promoting Human Rights.
Currently, we are engaged in campaigns for the release of Armando Alonso Romero, and Eduardo Gomez Sanchez. In addition we are campaigning for the nomination of Leonel Morejon Almagro for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The reasons Javier wants me to contact you are three fold.
First, Javier wanted me to ask you if the plans are still on for the demonstration in front of the Cuban embassy and the meeting with various human rights activists and the Cuban ambassador.
Secondly, Javier would like to resume contact with you via fax. He needs your phone and fax number.
Thirdly, we are going to address the case of Eduardo Gomez Sanchez. He is a prisoner in Kilo 8 in the Camaguey province in Cuba. He has been condemned to 20 years in prison for piracy and illegal exit. He is gravely ill with a cancerous tumor in the liver and is being held in a punishment cell. He has been refused medical assistance as a reprisal for a hunger strike he had been engaged in. We are in the process of confirming this information provided by his brother using third party sources.
Finally, we'd like to collaborate with you over the long term in promoting human rights and the rule of law both in Cuba, and in Russia. Let us know what we can do to assist you.
Cordially,
John Suarez
