Dear Sirs
On behalf of the Social Democratic Party in Denmark, I hereby thank you for your letter of the 22nd August 1997, asking for our signature and support to the idea of establishing of an International Criminal Court etc.
Denmark has internationally (also in the UN) as well as nationally given full support to this idea, so we totally agree with you on this issue.
However, the last paragraph in your draft appeal suggests a change in the existing mandate of the SFOR. We do not agree with this suggestion, as the Social Democratic ruled government has approved and supported - both in NATO and in the EU - that NATO fully utilizes its SFOR mandate. The NATO countries have no plans at this moment to alter that mandate, and this attitude is being backed up by the Social Democratic Party in Denmark.
Having said this, we share your wish to have the International Criminal Court established, and we sincerely hope that you will be able to urge the UN General Assembly to do so.
Yours Faithfully,
Helle Degn
Spokeswoman for the Danish Social Democratic policy of Foreign Affairs and Security
