To the attention of

Brussels, 16 October 1997
Respected Mr. Professor,
Mrs. Emma Bonino has sent me a copy of your letter (dated 29 September), in which you emphasised the necessity to create a transnational political organisation and expressed your full support and devotion to this idea.
Therefore I would like to inform you briefly about the Transnational Radical Party, an organisation, which is trying to be such an organization, promoting international policies and law, and whose former Secretary General was Mrs. Bonino herself.
The Transnational Radical Party (TRP) is a political organisation, an association of citizens and parliamentarians of diverse national and political backgrounds that intend to obtain certain concrete objectives. These objectives are aimed at the creation of an effective International Law, based on the rights of the individual and the affirmation of democracy and freedom throughout the world. These goals are achieved through gandhian methods of nonviolence and civil disobedience.
The main campaigns currently promoted by the Transnational Radical Party are:
- Freedom for Tibet and democracy in China
- Establishment of an International Criminal Court
- Universal abolition of the death penalty
- Antiprohibitionist reform of drug laws and international conventions concerning drugs
- Adoption of an international auxiliary language for international communication
Membership of the TRP is open to everyone and allows those who join to vote on initiatives and elections among the directive organs during the biennial congresses. The TRP has members in around 30 countries (even if the majority of the members are still Italians) and offices in 9 countries. It does not participate in national, regional, or local elections.
In 1995 it obtained an advisory status of NGO category 1 with the United Nations.
I believe you will find our activities interesting. For more informations, any comments and co-operation, I remain at your complete disposal.
Best regards,
Olivier Dupuis,
Member of European Parliament
Secretary General of Transnational Radical Party
