To the kind attention of Mr Xiao Qiang
Executive Director of Human Rights in China
Brussels, November 24, 1997
Dear Xiao,
I learnt and I read in the newspapers about the press conference Human Rights in China, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch organized last friday for the first appearance in public of Wei Jingsheng after his release.
I was - I don't know if I can say "you imagine" - quite suprised. In fact it seems to me that Human Rights in China and the Transnational Radical Party were doing a joint campaign on ... Wei Jingsheng. And as far as I know, there were not doing this campaign with Amnesty International and Human Rights in China.
Moreover, as soon as we got the news about the release of Wei, we contact the office of Human Rights in China, both from Rome and New York... Shall I assume that the Transnational Radical Party is OK only to collect signatures, to lobby in the Parliaments, and to do nonviolent actions on the streets ?
Sincerely yours,
Olivier Dupuis
