UN/LETTER TO INDIA ON GANDHI

H. E Ambassador

Kamalesh Sharma

Permanent Representative

Of India to the United Nations

New York, February 18, 1998

Dear Ambassador,

Thank you very much for your reply of February 16, we are glad to know that we did not misinterpret your intervention. TRP's activity do not lean on conventional thinking and also derive their strength from tradition, a tradition based on individual freedom and liberty.

In order to expend on our organization we are delighted to enclose a brochure that we recently published that can give you an overview on our current campaigns. It would be an honor for us to know your opinion on what we are doing.

In particular, we would like to draw your attention to the UNGA June Special Session on Narcotic Drugs. We fear that the international community, if it continues in its repressive approach to the issue, will risk to start the new millennium embittering its war on drugs and making it more and more a war on people.

We believe that the time has come to propose alternatives to that war, and we are of the opinion that NGOs should be allowed to actively participate in the session with the possibility of disseminating their views.

Hoping to hear from you soon, we send you our best regards.

Respectfully,

Marco Cappato Marco PerDuca

UN Representatives
