Dear Sir,

Six persons from East Timor have been refuged since the pa t 19th September 1997, in the Austrian Embassy in Djakarta and are prevented by Indonesia, to travel to Portugal.

In this embassy and under the protection of Austria, there have been MR. AVELINO DA SILVA (the leader of East Timor resistance), his wife., two daughters (of 4 and 6 years old), and two other companions. all of them persecuted by the Indonesian police, because they fight for the self-determination and independence of East Timor.

Due to this intolerable situation of Human Rights Violation and in the name of AST (Socialist Association of Timor), I ask you for your solidarity and that this situation must be reported in the next meeting of the Decolonization Committee of the United Nations (24 special Committee) to be held in Now York during the present year (30 June 1998).
