Dear Mr. Dupuis,

In response to your letter on the issue of the death penalty, I would like to confirm that in accordance with the position already taken at the 54th session of the UN Commission on Human Rights where my country co-sponsored Resolution 1998/8 of April 3 this year, Bulgaria is ready to support a similar draftresolution on this subject on the forthcoming 53rd session of the UN General Assembly.

I should like to avail myself of this opportunity to point out that by a decision of 20.07.1990 the Great National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria imposed a moratorium on the execution of the death penalty.

In conclusion, I would like to reiteratemy readiness to cooperate with you as well as with the other members of the European Parliament on any issues of mutual interest.
