Thank you for your letter of August 12, 1998.

I fully share the views you express. However, as the former Chief Prosecutor I do feel that it would not be appropriate for me to subscribe to a public appeal designed to put pressure on my successor. I do hope that you will understand with sympathy this decision.

I do admire the work that you and the Radical Party are doing in the area of war crimes and bringing war criminals to justice.
