Dear Private Secretary,

Professor Williams will be in the US until Friday and I am therefore writing in her absence to acknowledge Mr Dell'Alba's fax, of 27 August, which I have just seen (Parliament is currently in recess).

I shall be glad to show this to her at the earliest opportunity, but in the meantime would be most grateful to know what the time limit is on returning the signed letter to Mr Dell'Alba. I shall look forward to hearing from you.
