providing uncensored news and information to Tibet (India and Nepal) through a daily short wave radio service
Summary:
VOT is a communication project for the Tibetans and run by Tibetans.
VOTs daily radio programmes aims to strenghten the Tibetan identity and culture, and to educate, inform and entertain the Tibetans in Tibet (and the Tibetan exile communities in India and Nepal). VOT focus mainly on Tibet related news and information, especially emphasising on issues as democracy, human rights and (Tibetan culture). VOT is the Tibetans own radio; for the Tibetans - run by Tibetans.
VOTs daily service is unique because the programme production takes place in the hearts of the Tibetan exile communities, providing a daily link between the Tibetans in Tibet and the exile communities and the rest of the free world.
Every day a 30 minutes programme is produced by Tibetan journalists stationed in India and Nepal, and aired on short wave to Tibet (India, Nepal and Bhutan).
VOTs editor-in-chief and four journalists are stationed at the main editorial office in Dharamsala, India, and one full-time correspondent is stationed in Nepal.
The Foundation Voice of Tibet requests for support to co-sponsor parts of the costs involved in running and developing the Voice of Tibets programme production activities taking place in India (total annual budget for 1999: 49.580 USD) and Nepal (total annual budget for 1999: 16.010 USD).
Voice of Tibet would also highly appreciate feedback on potential organisations, institutions and private individuals that might support a human rights project like VOT.
