Dear Sir,

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic has asked that I answer your letter of 15 July 1999 requesting information about the ratification of the Statute of the International Criminal Court by the Czech Republic.

The Czech Republic signed the Statute of the International Criminal Court (known as the "Rome Statute" on 13 April 1999. The ratification will be preceded by an analysis conducted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in consultation with the Ministry of Justice, examining the potential impact of the obligations arising from the Statute on national legislation. The analysis should be ready by the end of the coming year and may led to changes in national legislation. The ratification will be initiated on completion of these procedures.
