Excellency,
Allow me to take this opportunity to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated August 17, 1999 addressed to the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Lesotho, inquiring on the progress thus far by Lesotho towards ratification of the Rome Treaty creating the International Criminal Court.
On behalf of the Foreign Minister, I am happy to Inform you that the Government of Lesotho remains committed to the early establishment of the International Criminal Court and has every intention to abide by the terms of the ICC Treaty.
The Government of Lesotho has, accordingly, initiated the ground work for the ICC implementing legislation based on the model developed by the SADC Intergovernmental meeting of Experts held in Pretoria in July l999.
It is the Government's intention that by the end of year, the outcome would have been tabled before Parliament and thereafter the processing of ratification will follow.
I wish to further thank you on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lesotho for your interest in activities of the Government of the Kingdom of Lesotho.
Sincerely yours,
L. Mosala (Ms)
