Esteemed Mr. President,

It was a great pleasure for us to learn that Your Country has undersigned the Statute of the International Criminal Court last October 1.

I allow myself to seize this opportunity to let you know that the Radical Party has launched together with the International Committee No Peace Without Justice an international campaign aiming at the ratification of the Statute of the ICC by at least 60 Countries before the end of the year 2000. 60 ratifications is indeed the minimal number fixed by the ICC Treaty for the Court to enter into force.

As you certainly know, so far only four countries have ratified the Statute, Senegal, Trinidad and Tobago, San Marino and Italy.

Hoping that your Country to continue playing a leading role in this campaign for the establishment of the first international criminal jurisdiction, I remain at your complete disposal for any initiative aiming at the reinforcement of the relationship between your Country and the European Union.
