INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT

Thank you for your letter dated 20 November which was sent to our minister here. I have been asked to reply.

The Government of the United Kingdom regards the creation of an effective International Criminal Court as a key component of its policies on human rights, the upholding of international humanitarian law and the prevention of conflict. Interdepartmental preparatory work on the legislation required to implement the statute of the Court in the United Kingdom is well advanced and this legislation will be introduced as soon as the Parliamentary timetable allows.
