RE: Complaint brought by the Delegation of the Russian Federation before the Committee on Non-governmental Organizations

The Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) met in New York from I 5 to 19 May 2000.

The Committee had before it a complaint by the Delegation of the Russian Federation (attached to our fax message of 16 May 2000). The Delegation of the Russian Federation requested the Committee to recommend to the ECOSOC, in line with its resolution 1996-31, to withdraw the consultative status that your organization enjoys with the Council

Pursuant to paragraph 56 of Council resolution/1996/131, your organization shall have the opportunity to present a written response to the complaint, as conveyed to you in our fax message of 16 May 2000 (see attached), for appropriate consideration by the Committee at the second part of its regular session on 12-23 June 2000 in New York. Please ensure that the response be submitted in writing and is received in this office no later than 9 June 2000.

The Committee, upon receipt of the response, or in the absence of it, might consider this matter at the second part of its regular session and make a recommendation to the Economic and Social Council.

Please note that your organization is invited to attend the session at which your matter will be discussed.
