From:cicc@iccnow.org Dear colleagues,
We thought the following information about a hearing on the ICC, called by Senator Helms for June 14th, would be of interest to you. Heather Hamilton has suggested that NGOs based in the U.S. might want to call the offices of the majority and minority staff directors to request that an expert with a favorable view of the ICC be included in the witness list for this hearing. The majority staff director is James Nance (202-224-4651) and the minority staff director is Ed Hall (202-224-3953).
If you would like to be a witness yourself, we encourage you to try to get on the list, or you may want to forward this to someone who might be interested. All the best, Jayne Stoyles Dear WICC Members: Senator Jesse Helms has announced that he will be holding a hearing on the International Criminal Court on Wednesday, June 14, at 3:30 pm in 419 Dirksen Senate office building.
The witnesses are Caspar Weinberger, Dr. Jeremy Rabkin of Cornell University Department of Government, and Jeane Kirkpatrick (additional witnesses to be announced). The WICC is preparing a press release, noting that the hearing is clearly politically motivated in its timing and the hostile positions of the witnesses. (If anyone has any information on Rabkin or his position, please send an email back to wicc@egroups.com and let us know who he is.) We will provide a list of pro-ICC experts on the court who are willing to take calls from the media for interviews. a resource. I'll update you when we know more. Heather
