OCCUPATION OF CZECHOSLOVAKIA (5) STATEMENT OF THE PARTY'S SECRETARIAT FOLLOWING THE EXPULSION OF MARCO PANNELLA, MARCELLO BARAGHINI, ANTONIO AZZOLINI AND SILVANA LEONARDI FROM BULGARIA. (EVENING OF 26 SEPTEMBER)

ABSTRACT: The announcement of the expulsion from Bulgaria of Marco Pannella, Marcello Baraghini, Antonio Azzolini and Silvana Leonardi, who had taken part in the demonstrations promoted by the WRI against the occupation of Czechoslovakia.

(RADICAL NEWS No. 48, 26 September 1968)

Following an announcement it had received, the Radical Party's Secretariat informs that the four militants arrested in Sofia have been expelled from Bulgaria and are on their way to Italy.

The Radical Party, while thanking Marco Pannella, Marcello Baraghini, Antonio Azzolini and Silvana Leonardi for their participation in the demonstrations of Sofia, rejects the slanderous statements of the Bulgarian press organs, and reconfirms the judgement of condemnation which, together with the majority of the world socialist Left, it expressed on the deplorable invasion of Czechoslovakia.

The demonstrations promoted by the WRI draw the attention of the entire Left on the permanent need to carry out a firm international action in support of the Czechoslovak communist Party and people, with the ultimate aim of ensuring its full autonomy.

RADICAL DEMONSTRATIONS IN FRONT OF THE U.S. EMBASSY IN ROME

ROME (R.N.): On Thursday 25 September, in parallel with the demonstrations held in Moscow, Warsaw, Budapest and Sofia in support pf Czechoslovakia, a group of radicals from the Roman federation staged a demonstration of protest in front of the U.S. embassy, against the despicable aggressive-repressive war

triggered in Vietnam; the pamphlet distributed by sandwich men states that only those who are intransigent opponents of the criminal policy followed by the U.S. and by NATO throughout the world have the right to protest against the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia.
