DC9 CRASHED IN USTICA: QUESTION INTRODUCED BY THE RADICAL MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FRANCO DE CATALDO ON THE POSSIBLE COLLISION WITH MILITARY AIRCRAFT

ABSTRACT: With a parliamentary question, the radical member of Parliament Franco De Cataldo asks to know whether the crash of the DC9 in Ustica on 27 June 1980, which caused the death of 81 passengers, could have been caused by a collision with Italian or NATO military aircraft.

(RADICAL NEWS, 30 August 1980)

Rome, 30 August 1980 - R.N. - In a question addressed to the President of the Council of Ministers and to the Minister of Transport, the radical member of Parliament Franco De Cataldo draws new attention on the case of the DC9 crashed near Ustica last June, whereby 81 people passengers were killed.

In the question, the authors ask to know whether the accident was caused by a collision with an Italian or NATO military aircraft. He points out that the work performed by the technicians would confirm that the accident was caused by "explosive decompression", which, however, occurred too rapidly to be ascribed to a collapse of the aircraft's structures due to wear and lack of security controls.

Moreover, it asks to know whether it is true that the radar had picked up the presence of two tracks in addition to the presence of the DC9, one on the right and one on the left of the Itavia aircraft, at a speed of 900 km/h; moreover, it asks to know the reasons for which neither the commissions nor the magistrate have yet been given the recordings of the NATO radar, which could ascertain such details.

Lastly, the question asks to know the initiatives of the Government to ensure the rapid performance of the investigations on the causes of the accident with the acquisition of all the elements useful to achieve the truth.
