PANNELLA SPEAKS OUT ON LE PEN
By Marco Pannella

ABSTRACT: The possibility of technical agreements between the European Parliament Front of J.M. Le Pen and those of the Radical Party to guarantee essential prerogatives and services to numerically small groups which the large groups already enjoy. But no possibility for political agreements.

("Il GIORNALE", July 10, 1984)

Dear Editor,

In reply to questions by Giancarlo Perna, I confirmed that I have a friendly and familiar relationship with Jean-Marie Le Pen. I also expressed the opinion that Jean-Marie Le Pen might be objectively interested in what the Radicals would also be interested in: the formation of a mixed group in the European Parliament as well rather than continue with the present situation in which those with insufficient numbers to form a parliamentary group find themselves simply in the position of "non-members" deprived of those essential services and prerogatives which the constituted groups enjoy.

I have meticulously explained this particular situation of the E.P., which in any case in the past has seen me committed to the rights of non-members, and I imparted this supposition of mine to Giancarlo Perna as a possible explanation for the current rumours going round in Rome and Brussels.

That much having been said, I want to state that I do not consider possible, thanks to a long-standing familiarity, that Jean-Marie Le Pen can have any interest or intention for any political agreement between the members of Parliament of our two parties.

I have not the slightest doubt that Giancarlo Perna, whom I truly esteem highly, will want to make publish the precise facts contained in my statement.
