ABSTRACT: Motion for a resolution tabled to the European Parliament by Michelini and Cicciomessere on 3th April 1987,on an exit visa for Ida Nudel

The European Parliament
A. recalling its resolutions on the problems of Soviet Jews and,
in particular, the resolution of 17 December 1983 on the refusal
of the Soviet authorities to grant an exit visa to the Soviet Jewess Ida Nudel and the resolution of 19 February 1987 on the
situation of Jews in the Soviet Union,
B. having regard to the more liberal climate created by the
Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev,who in the first three months of
1987 alone authorised the emigration of over 700 Jews, 1.914
having been the number for the whole of 1986.
C. whereas the request made by Ida Nudel in 1971 for authorisation to emigrate to Israel has still to be granted,
D. having regard to the urgent pleas made by many political and
cultural figures,
1. Calls on the Foreign Ministers meeting in political co-operation to use their good offices to persuade the Soviet authorities to grant Ida Nudel an exit visa as soon as possible;
2. Instructs its President to forward this resolution to the
Council,the Foreign Ministers meeting in political co-operation and the Soviet Government.
