Conference on homoeopathic medicine - Presentation
by Maria Teresa Di Lascia

(Papers of the Transnational Conference: "THE HOMOEOPATIC REMEDY-NON-MEDICINE. A PROPOSAL FOR RECOGNITION" - Rome 12th and 13th december 1988)

When we decided to participate in the conference on homoeopathic medicine and the recognition of homoeopathic cures - not only as regards legislature, but also the consumer's right to access to true homoeopathy and not surrogates or imitations dictated by fashion - we also decided that the debate would have to be on transnational level.

Following those decisions, more than four months were spent meeting with homoeopathic physicians from all parts of the world, organizing their participation and deciding on the reports to be presented at the two day conference.

Our aim was, first of all, to "present", with authoritative support - the Parliamentary Group of Montecitorio and the President of the Republic - a form of medicine improperly defined as "alternative", which become more and more a centre of attention for the collective mind and individual choices, resulting from the effectiveness and the validity of its methods and its cures. In fact, if we consider how homoeopathy has survived the war waged against it for two centuries by official medicine, disinformation and the defamation to which it has been submitted, the absence of the economic means of research and medical assistance structures almost everywhere, the false tolerance and the true intolerance with which it has been presented to the public, the only possible explanation as to why it has not disappeard off the face of the earth is its success in curing the ill and the profound impression of utility which physicians practising it experience.

Obviously, nothing is perfect or without problems, even homoeopathic medicine, which - as Hahenmann said - much more than official medicine, must fear those physicians who although not homeopathists, claim to be (since no one challenges those who think that homoeopathy consists exclusively in the choice of less toxic medicines. In either case, it is the patient who suffers the consequences, since he will give up homoeopathy, and - more importantly - he will not be cured.

Since homoeopathy, like most simple things, is in reality a difficult and precise science, requiring professional preparation and maturity. The homoeopathic practitioner enjoys no "all encompassing" shelter: either the patient is cured or he isn't.

And the patient will be cured only if he is comprehended as a whole entity, mental and physical; in full respect of his psychological and biological history; with an correct evaluation of his vital energy to find the cure to be administered - which will be the only one for that person, at that moment of his life.

Of course, homoeopathy is also a philosophy which considers the human being with al his strengths ant his weaknesses.

In this era of the computer and laser (with its unending attempts to manipulate the genome in order to create progressively less human supermen, and cancer and aids, and all the other iatrogenic syndromes, and in the end only producing on the one hand progressively more desperation and solitude and on the other consumerism and entropy), homoeopathy with its simple and comprehensible - even obvious - rules and remedies (the experimental and curative effectiveness of which for two hundred years have been consistently confirmed all over the world), and its unbiased research on the living human being and his suffering, constitutes a comforting message of hope and nonviolence. It is our hope that the minutes of this conference will help each and every one of you to become more familiar with homoeopathy, understand its value and attempt to provide suitable regulatory laws.

FOR THE PUBLICATION OF THIS BOOK AND THE ORGANIZATION OF THE CONFERENCE, "THE HOMOEOPATHIC REMEDY-NON-MEDICINE. A PROPOSAL FOR RECOGNITION". OUR HEARTFELT THANKS GO TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC AND THE REGION OF LATIUM FOR THEIR KIND SUPPORT. OUR THANKS ALSO GO TO THE BANCO DI NAPOLI, THE EUROPEAN FEDERALIST GROUP AND LA LUIMO (FREE UNIVERSITY OF HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICINE) FOR THEIR COLLABORATION AND SUPPORT. AND FINALLY, OUR THANKS TO ALL THOSE PARTICIPATING IN THE CONFERENCE.
