Vittorio Gassman(THE NEW PARTY, MARCH 1993)
It gives me great pleasure to respond to the new Transnational Radical Party's appeal to the world of culture in Europe, to all my friends and colleagues, to intellectuals and workers, who are capable of perceiving the urgency of the many problems that have to be resolved to allow us to continue to live in a civilized manner and to permit modern society to survive.
A political commitment without a sense of moral responsibility, without strength, is completely meaningless.
Now more than ever, a culture which does not aim at creating solidarity between peoples on a long-term basis is nothing more than a redundant abstraction, an extravagance to be condemned.
The blindness and corruption of "partycracies" obliges the individual to become involved personally, and to take a stance.
These are the basic credos of the new Radical Party, and this is why it is an effective instrument for dealing with the disasters in the world and counteracting the inertia of the majority of international institutions.
The "Utopian" dream can and must be transformed into absolute reality.
Friends and colleagues, join this generous-hearted "company of strolling players" which does not content itself with presenting petitions, but intends to play an active "role" in resolving the urgent problems the world has to deal with: the tragic situation in Bosnia; the re-organization of countries which have left Communism behind; the campaign against the death penalty; the court for judging war crimes; the Tibetan problem; the ecological disaster... The seriousness and the number of these unresolved problems leaves no room for indecision and requires you to make a choice, now.
Let's work together to create a more human world, a better place to live in.
