(1994 - IL QUOTIDIANO RADICALE, 22 November 1993)

Radical members of the Russian Parliament and of the Mossoviet were at the centre of the sad events of Moscow; some at the Mossoviet, on the Tverskaja in front of the Radical party's headquarters, others in the white tower of Parliament and others in the Kremlin. Some were for Eltsin other against him.

Sergei Andreev, former member of the Russian Supreme Soviet, sas early as in the evening of the 21st, when Eltsin issued the decree for the dissolution of Parliament, was part of a group pf mediators who tried to settle the question peacefully. "I was one of the only three deputies" - he said - "to have voted against Eltsin's impeachment. When it became clear that Eltsin, Khasbulatov, Rutskoi and the others were not seeking a peaceful solution, I left the White House".

Sasha Kalinin says the reaction of the supporters of Parliament was deliberately caused to solve in a brutal manner and once and for all the clash of powers in the odd Soviet system. "We cannot recognize the legitimacy of Eltsin's decrees that dissolve the Supreme Soviet and the local Soviets because they are accused of fostering the revolt", says Sergei Sheboldaev and Lev Ivanov. As radicals we repeatedly sounded a warning for the non-violent solution of the conflict and for the respect of the legality". But when everything wound uo in the hands of professional criminals, on both parts, we realized all hopes were lost".

"What happened proves that the population is not prepared to act democratically, since the parts in conflict lack the will to create democracy. We hope that justice finds the persons who committed these rash actions", say the four radical deputies. Now they are preparing for new elections, but they are not sure they will be able to participate.
