MOSCOW, May 8 (Interfax) -- "The Russia- NATO talks are useless," leader of the Liberal-Democratic Party Vladimir Zhirinovskiy told Interfax in an exclusive interview Thursday. "Force must be countered by force," he said.
Zhirinovskiy was among the deputies who took part in the wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier near the Kremlin Wall on the occasion of the 52nd anniversary of the victory over Germany in the 1941-1945 war. "No documents on Russia-NATO relations must be signed," he said. "All this is a lie, deceit and provocation. NATO can be kept within its borders only by force," he said.
Making his point clear, he said that Belarus and Transdniester must be joined to Russia and 200 divisions located on their territory. "The warheads must be targeted at the United States and Brussels," he said. "If this is done, no one will venture to take a single step eastwards. NATO will roll back immediately and forget about moving to our borders," he said.
"They do not know our missiles well enough," he continued. "Dozens of our missiles are on the United States' continental shelf, on the sea bottom. These missiles are guided autonomously, like silos-based missiles--we have never switched this program off-- so if NATO moves further to the East, these missiles will be used in accordance within their own program," he said.
He urged the Russian leaders to deal with NATO "the way Stalin dealt with Hitler at one time." "One should not wait for June 22 (the day when fascist Germany attacked the USSR in 1941), but, on June 20, deliver them (NATO) a blow," he said. He said Yeltsin should not go either to Paris, or to Madrid for a NATO summit. "Imagine Zhukov going to Hitler's staff on the eve of the war," he said. He also said that the King of Spain should not place Madrid at the disposal of the NATO leaders in July, so nobody thinks that a new attack on Russia was planned in Spain," Zhirinovskiy said.
