(Moscow, July 29, 1997) -- On Thursday, July 31, at 12.00, militants of the Anti-militarist Radical Association will demonstrate in front of the General Procurator's Office of Russian Federation (Bolshaja Dmitrovka 15a) in favour of immediate release of Nikolaj Mozhzhukhin and to defend rights of other conscientious objectors violated by military authorities responsible for military draft.

In the demonstration will participate conscientious objectors as well as members and activists of the ARA, including its secretary Nikolaj Khramov.

Nikolaj Mozhzhukhin, a member of the ARA from Nekouz district of Jaroslavl region, last autumn obtained the recognizing his status of conscientious objector by the court. However, despite this fact, on June 30 this year he has been sent by force "to perform military service" on a military unit in Jaroslavl region. Nikolaj Mozhzhukhin's case became a subject of parliamentarian interpellation by Valerij Borscev, member of the State Duma (Jabloko) and president of the ARA. On Saturday, July 26, Amnesty International recognized Mozhzhukhin a "prisoner of conscience" and launched an urgent action appeal for his release.
